On the 19 Feb 2017, the world-renowned Chingay Procession came to Pasir Ris New Town . It was an initiative by the organising committee to bring the Chingay processions to the heartlands.
The mood was lovely and lively on the day.
Programme of the Day
It started off with a live concert by a group, dishing out familiar songs to warm up the crowd. Many in the audience could be seen singing and humming along to the familiar tunes and lyrics.
The emcee took over after the concert, and he got the crowd all hyped up with a series of participation games. The humorous nature of the emcee’s presentation brought loud cheers and hearty laughter from the crowd. The ice was further broken as everyone soaked in the atmosphere.
The scene was spectacular. The floats presented a good feast of lights and sounds to the residents of Pasir Ris. There were also lively exchanges and interactions between the models / volunteers on the floats and the public. Amazingly, the organising committee managed to bring the Stilt Walkers to the occasion. Personally, I have not seen them for ages. Their presence certainly brought amazement and joy to many – young and old alike. The atmosphere was fantastic.
Adding on to the wonderful occasion was the presence of “hawkers” who dished out floodfare such as Nonya Kuehs, Kachang Puteh and Soya Bean plus Ching Chao drinks. It was like a Pasar Malam or funfair scene back in the 80s or 90s of the past century.
Thank You for the Hard Work Put In, Performers and Organising Committee Members
I must salute the organising committee for having pulled off such a challenging but fulfilling task of bringing Chingay to the heartlands. They must have put in hours of planning and coordination with the relevant authorities. Kudos to them.
A truly spectacular event. My family and friends had great fun and a fabulous experience.
Truly a memory to treasure. 19 Feb 2017 will forever be remembered as the day Chingay came to Pasir Ris New Town.
